Gardaí Issue Warning About Gang Posing As Homeless Beggars In These Irish Towns

Darragh Berry

Gardaí are asking people not to donate money to these con artists who are posing as homeless beggars.

The beggars have been spotted throwing donated food into bins and have refused accommodation and Gardaí believe they are just looking for money.

Radio Kerry states that it is a professional gang of beggars who are operating out of several towns in Cork as well as Tralee, Killarney in Kerry.

Gardaí are saying that some of the group have been arrested already and that €600 was found on them as well as the keys to a BMW car.

Cllr Pa Daly has expressed his concerns about the set up and states that the gang are exploiting the good people of the south.

“In Tralee, everyone is looked after and that’s a bold statement to make.

“The housing unit are doing such good work that there is no people on the streets at night time.

“These people are not genuine homeless so, don’t give them money. There’s a team there in place and some of them are looking out for the Gardaí. They are around the corner and if the Gardaí are coming they alert their friends and they move up before the Gardaí come along.

“The Gardaí can see this on the cameras. The best way to stop this from happening is to stop giving them money.”
