Get the heating on – Temperatures to drop to below zero this weekend

James Fenton

The annual dilemma has arrived – turn the heating on as soon as things get chilly or throw on an extra layer and hold out for another few weeks?

This weekend is sure to have people’s fingers hovering over the ‘on’ button as the experts reckon things will take a turn for the worse on Friday night. After a couple of weeks of pleasant enough weather, tonight is expected to see temperatures of zero and ‘potentially dropping lower locally with grass frost in places,’ according to Met Éireann.

Saturday will be a dry day with ‘spells of crisp autumn sunshine,’ however, lowest temperatures will range from minus two to plus two degrees on Saturday night.

As for Sunday, the daytime will see some more autumn sunshine before a slightly milder night with low temperatures of five degrees. There will also be ‘scatter outbreaks of rain or drizzle’ so not really a night to be dining outside for those of us in Dublin or Donegal is it?

In the short-term, it might be best to cosy up this Friday night with some movies on TV, or indeed tune into The Late Late Show. You can see what guests Ryan Tubridy has lined up for the latter via this link.
