The HSE has confirmed that three of its hospitals have been affected by the ransomware virus that has caused havoc across the globe.

The organisation this morning decided to extend its ban on external emails for another 48 hours after it was found that 20 machines had been infected by the virus.

However, a spokesperson said that the computers were quickly isolated to stop the virus spreading throughout the rest of the network.

According to The Irish Independent, disruption to patient care “has been minimised” but there will be some impact on HSE operations.
