The Fire Brigade are warning people to check the model of their tumble dryer after a recall was issued by Whirlpool, as there is a seriously dangerous design flaw.
In some rare cases, excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element in the dryer and start a fire.

The problem was discovered after Whirlpool recently acquired Hotpoint, Indesa and Creda. After a safety review of previous products, they issued a recall on two models manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015.
You can check if your dryer is affected here.
If you have one of the faulty models, the advice is to unplug the machine and call Whirlpool, who will arrange for the dryer to be modified so that it’s no longer dangerous.
