James Fenton

Gone are the days of Irish pessimism and begrudgery. Feck sake.

According to a new survey undertaken by the Sunday Independent and Kantar Millward Brown, 77% of people reckon their current mood living in Ireland is positive.

A total of 972 people were asked a series of questions about life in Ireland and the outlook is looking pretty good for most.

38% of respondents reckon the current economic situation will get better while 19% think it will get worse.

36% think they will be better off this time next year while 15% think they will be worse off.

Finally, 40% of respondents said that banks are not doing enough to help potential buyers get mortgages while 45% believe that now is a good time to buy a house.
