It’s Official – This Is Ireland’s Hottest June In Over 40 Years

James Fenton

Met Éireann has confirmed that the current heatwave is the hottest Ireland has experienced in June since 1976.

The nation has been enjoying glorious sunshine while yesterday was generally a bit too stuffy for comfort with highs of 29 degrees.

Temperatures have been five degrees above average for five days, which officially makes it a heatwave.

The last time June was this roasting, many of us weren’t even alive.

Head forecaster Gerry Fleming said:

“1976 was the last time we had this in June, so 40 years ago.

“What I can say though is that virtually every month from winter through spring temperatures were between .5 and one degree above the average.”

Today is set to be a little bit cooler with a mixture of showers and sunny spells.
