Jeffrey Dahmer’s father Lionel Dahmer is reportedly considering suing Netfilx over two shows they created about the serial killer.
Mr Dahmer, 86, is upset that he was never contacted regarding the controversial series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, his carer told the US Sun.
He is also said to be unhappy that Netflix did not seek permission to use tapes made by Dahmer’s legal team for their docuseries Conversations With A Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes.
The release of the show has led to a renewed interest in the infamous killer, who murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. There have been concerns as “deranged fans” have been showing up at Mr Dahmer’s home – his team have put up “No Trespassing” signs as a result.
Speaking to the US Sun, Mr Dahmer’s assistant said that the killer’s father was never contacted regarding the Netflix shows:
From my understanding and from everything that I’ve seen and witnessed personally, Lionel was not contacted about either of these shows on Netflix.
I’ve personally talked to a few lawyers and we’ve talked to his publisher about it too due to all the chaos that is going on and the stories we’ve seen.
Lionel and his power of attorney are gathering information and looking at a possible lawsuit against the production team or possibly Netflix.
Everyone is saying that if there was zero correspondence you seek damages.
There was zero care whatsoever about Lionel’s wellbeing.
The assistant also said that while he has not watched the series, based on what he has been told he believes it portrays Lionel in an unfair light.
He said:
Lionel was a very caring father. He was just trying to do his best in a time of uncertainty.
He thinks that none of this should have been made, all the information that needs to be public is right there in his book.
Everything else is just glamorized and provides attention to details that aren’t proven fact.
They don’t know the conservations between Jeff and the victims.
When I asked Lionel what he wanted me to tell people, he said: ‘Everything I have to say is in my book.’ But that’s as far as he goes.
None of this has been good for him.
Lionel’s book A Father’s Story was published in January 1994, months before his son was killed by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver in prison.
