‘Lean On Me’ singer Bill Withers has passed away at the age 81

The family of Lean On Me and Ain’t No Sunshine singer Bill Withers have confirmed that the singer has passed away at the age of 81.

The family of Bill Withers told the Associated Press that he died from heart complications on Monday at the age of 81. A statement described him as ‘a solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world’ and added ‘he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other.’

Born in West Virginia in 1938, Withers was known for recording several major hits including Lean On Me, Ain’t No Sunshine, Lovely Day and Just The Two Of Us.

He won three Grammy Awards throughout his career and was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2015.
