Sean Cox was in the thoughts of the Liverpool hierarchy last night after the club won their first English league title since 1990.
The club’s CEO took to Twitter after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Manchester City sealed the Premier League title for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, posting ‘It’s for Sean Cox, smiling in Ireland right now’ as part of a celebratory tweet. Mr Cox of Dunboyne suffered life-changing injuries after being attacked outside Anfield ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League game against Roma in April 2018.
Number 19 is finally here. It’s for our millions of fans, near and far…we miss you. It’s for the Reds that fell to the virus. It’s for my dad, who first took me to Anfield in 1959. It’s for Sean Cox, smiling in Ireland right now. And it’s for the 96, who will never be forgotten

Moore followed up with a picture of Sean himself along with the words ‘One man in Ireland is loving every moment of this…thinking of you this evening Sean. You’ll Never, Ever, Walk Alone.’

Sean Cox certainly wasn’t the only Liverpool fan smiling last night and the celebrations are sure to last for quite a while yet. The Reds return to the pitch next Thursday when they are expected to receive a guard of honour from Manchester City ahead of the clash between the Premier League’s top two.
You would expect the hangovers to have eased by then…
