2019 is one of those great years when St. Patrick’s Day falls on a weekend meaning most people get an extended break from work.
However, if Met Éireann’s forecast is to be believed we might be better off staying at home throughout our time off. The weather experts are predicting a particularly cold one for Paddy’s Day with ‘wintry showers’ throughout. The forecast says that it is ‘likely to be a bright and cold day with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of the showers could be wintry. Top temperatures 7 to 9 degrees in a moderate to fresh northwesterly breeze.’
That’s not even the worst of it. The day before (Saturday) is set to bring ‘heavy and persistent rain with it as well as the risk of hail’ with ‘sleet and snow over higher ground’ and ‘strong and gusty southwest winds’. Temperatures on the night leading into Paddy’s Day are expected to fall to as low as minus one degree ‘with frost and icy stretches’. Yikes.
Here’s hoping things pick up on Monday so we can at least enjoy some of our long weekend. A detailed forecast for the coming days can be found here.
