Met Éireann has issued a new status yellow wind warning for 23 counties that will run concurrently to a snow/ice warning, with both valid from 8am on Thursday.
Like the snow/ice warning that was issued to Leinster, Munster and Connacht yesterday, the wind warning will run from 8am on Thursday until 8am on Friday in the same provinces.
The wind warning was issued today at 3pm and says: ‘Strong to gale force southeast winds in conjunction with rain, sleet and snow will lead to poor visibility and hazardous conditions.’
Tonight’s forecast says that it will be ‘very cold overnight with a widespread sharp to severe frost and icy stretches. It will be mostly dry with clear spells, though there will be isolated showers of hail or snow at times. Rain, sleet and snow will develop in the southwest towards morning. It will become breezy tonight, with fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds developing, strongest in the southwest. Lowest temperatures of -4 to +1 degrees.’
As for Thursday night, ‘sleet and snow in Munster, Connacht and Leinster early on Thursday night will become largely confined to Leinster overnight, with rain persisting towards the south coast as temperatures increase here. Staying breezy with fresh and gusty southeasterly winds, strong near all coasts. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees.’
