Met Éireann has just issued two new yellow weather warnings for the whole of Ireland.

Yesterday they released an advisory that warned of ‘Potential for severe weather on Saturday’ as well as ‘hazardous conditions’ resulting from heavy rain.

The forecaster has now issued yellow rainfall and wind warnings for the entire country, starting from midnight tonight and they will be in place for 24 hours.

The rainfall warning says, ‘Heavy rain during Saturday will lead to accumulations of 30 to 50mm with some mountainous areas exceeding these limits.

While the wind warning states, ‘South to southeast winds will increase to reach 55 to 60 km/h during Saturday morning, strongest in the east.

‘Later on Saturday afternoon or evening, winds veer west to northwest and further increase to reach 55 to 65 km/h with severe gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, possibly exceeding these limits for a time.’

Met Éireann forecaster Harm Luijkx told The Independent, “The wind will be strong mostly in the east at the beginning of the day but heavy winds will be widespread by the evening.

“There’s a slight chance the warning will be upgraded to orange later today.”
