Met Éireann warn of hail and thunderstorms over the weekend

Rory Cashin

This is a weekend for the couch.

To be fair, we are into the depths of December, so the chances of any of our weather updates starting with “Hey! Guess what? Greece are so jealous of us right now. These temperatures?!” is… pretty low.

Having said that, while we are usually well prepared for the the cold and rain in an Irish winter, Met Éireann have warned of additional bad weather this coming weekend.

Saturday will see a lot of rain, especially in Connacht and Ulster, while there will be near-gale force winds along the western coastline.

Sunday brings “widespread showers and some longer spells of rain and risks of hail and isolated thunderstorms.” So, basically, this is not a weekend to be outside. Good thing there are so many new things to watch from the couch this weekend, like this on Saturday, or this on Sunday.

Beyond the weekend, the forecast isn’t massively improved.

Monday will be bringing more rain, starting in the north and west, before moving towards the east of the country, while beyond that, Met Éireann state that “there is uncertainty in the outlook but conditions look set to remain quite unsettled.”

So… more rain and more wind. So we’ll have to be finding you more stuff to watch at home! We’re on it!
