Controversial Message Michael Conlan Received Could Lead To Big Paddy’s Day Revenge Fight

He is one of the greatest fighters that the Irish sporting world has ever seen and since turning professional.

He’s only 26 and is celebrating one year in the pro-game but he has already gotten six wins under his belt and has two more chalked down.

Of course, his move to professional came after a very controversial decision in the Olympics in 2016.

Conlan absolutely crushed his opponent, Vladimir Nikitin, at Rio but somehow, it was the Russian who came out on top with unanimous decision from the judges.

Nikitin, was unable to take part in the Semi-Finals and withdrew because of injuries, more proof that Conlan was the real winner in their fight

And it comes as no surprise that Conlan wants a rematch with the Russian and told ESPN, that it’s the one he wants.

“Stevenson, it’s a natural fight, but the one I really want is Nikitin. Nikitin messaged me on Instagram the other day, sent me a picture of the article saying he has signed with Top Rank and saying something in Russian like ‘I am your friend’.

“I didn’t reply to it, I have no ill feeling towards him personally, it wasn’t his fault and he didn’t profit from it and he’s probably got more stick than he should have.”

“He’s the fella I want and it’s very marketable. Stevenson has good boxing skills and is a smart fighter, but he doesn’t have the power to trouble me. I hope to have the Russian on St Patrick’s Day next year either in the big room in the Garden or Belfast.”

No doubt, it’ll be built up as a revenge or grudge match but one thing is for sure, Conlan would certainly come out on top again.
