A Navy ship sold by the Department Of Defence for €110,000 is now on sale for over six times that price.
A Dutch buyer paid the sum for L.E. Aisling earlier this year but has now listed the vessel at €683,000 – warning that the price would continue to increase.
Sinn Féín’s Aengus Ó Snodaigh told TheJournal.ie that it was “embarrassing” for the country’s defence forces and represents a “significant loss” to the State.
However, according to RTÉ.ie, the transportation of the ship to Holland and reclassifying it as a fisheries patrol vessel could have come at substantial cost.
