Old Irish 20p Coin Is Selling For Up To €6,000

Alan Fisher

You read that right.

One of those little coins is selling for up to €6,000 at auction.

It’s a rare version of the coin from 1985 that will be on auction at Whyte’s auction house on April 6.

According to Central Bank, fewer than 50 pieces of the 500 issued in 1985 were not returned when the Euro was introduced in 2002.

Since the 2002 handover, about 10 of the 50 have been recorded, making it one of the rarest Irish modern coins.

That means there is a chance 40 of them could still be out there and you could have one down the back of the couch, so get digging.

This is what you’re keeping a look out for:

Or on the other hand, if you really want one you can place a bid here.
