Original iPod Goes Up For Sale For €18,000

It might be time to start digging through those drawers at home because someone is currently selling their original iPod for an eyewatering amount.

The 5GB first generation iPod that’s still in its original packaging is currently listed on eBay for $20,000 (around €18,000) – although the seller is open to offers.

The listing says, ‘I am a longtime Apple device collector, and this 5-Gigabyte iPod has been in my personal possession for almost two decades, kept in cool temperatures and away from sunlight.

‘I guarantee that it has been completely unused and untouched inside its original packaging, along with its iconic headphones, charging accessories, and manuals.’

If that seems like an insane price to pay, it turns out another of these original 5GB iPods did sell for $20,000 back in 2014, which would explain this new seller’s asking price.

Steve Jobs introduced the original model to the world back in 2001, telling people it could fit ‘1,000 songs in your pocket’ and it originally went on sale for $399 (€355).

It’s obviously very unlikely you’ll have one of these lying around in the original factory-sealed box, but it does give us hope that our old iPod could be worth a bit more than we thought…
