Childline, Ireland’s children’s support helpline, received over 1,000 calls and messages on Christmas Day according to RTÉ.
Issues affecting children contacting the helpline ranged from alcohol abuse in the home and loneliness to difficulties coping with the loss of a loved one and mental health.
A group of 61 volunteers helped run the Childline helpline yesterday, taking 1,049 messages from children via phone, webchat and text.
