We’re telling you this now so you can plan accordingly.
Not only is 2017 blessing us with Paddy’s Day on a Friday, it’s also providing us with more sport then you can shake a stick at over what’s set to be a three day national bender.
There’s no better way to celebrate our national holiday then to cheer on out sporting icons, and it all gets underway way on St. Patrick’s Day itself, Friday March 17.
That’s the night that our Olympic Bronze medalist Michael Conlan will take to the boxing ring at Madison Square Garden in New York for his professional debut.
The Belfast Boy will take on American Tim Ibarra in a fight that was confirmed just yesterday.
After cheering Conlan to victory, there’s plenty of time on Saturday March 18 to recover before our rugby boys take on the old enemy England in our final game of the 2017 Six Nations Championship at the Aviva Stadium.
Kick-off is scheduled for 5pm and considering we’re playing France at home this year as well, there’s a fair chance that we’ll be going for another historic Grand Slam after the heady days of 2009.
Later that night, it’s back to the ring to see if our Golden Girl Katie Taylor can make it a hat-trick of Irish victories to make Paddy’s Weekend the undisputed best weekend of 2017.
The Bray boxer is expected to continue her blossoming professional career on undercard of the world middleweight bout between Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs in New York against a yet to be confirmed opponent.
Katie certainly looks in great shape to make it three pro victories out of three as this video will testify.
Throw in the usual Paddy’s day fare of the GAA All-Ireland Club Championship Finals at Croke Park and the Schools Rugby deciders and we’re cancelling anything that isn’t sport related.
