Driving is great craic, but it is seriously expensive.

With tax and insurance, not to mention petrol and diesel, any price decrease is welcome news to our ears.

Even though it probably doesn’t seem like it, the average petrol and diesel prices in Ireland are the lowest they’ve been so far this year.

A new survey conducted by AA Ireland reveals that the average prices of petrol and diesel are down since April.

Petrol has fallen an average of 1.5c and diesel and average 2.5c.

The average petrol and diesel price, 135.1c and 123.5c respectively, come after a series of high prices – the month of March saw prices the highest in 18 months.

The survey also highlights the percentage of fuel that is taxed; 63.7% of petrol is tax as is 59.10% of diesel.

Let’s hope it lasts.
