An Irish GP surgery has been vandalised with anti-abortion graffiti overnight, sparking a Garda investigation.

A number of harsh messages were spray-painted in black and white across the wall outside the entrance to Longford Medical Centre in Leader Park.

The messages appeared to criticise doctors and the media as well as the government’s new policy on abortion.

RTÉ News reports that the doctor working out of the surgery is currently on holiday and the clinic said they would not be commenting on the incident. Most of the graffiti has now been removed from the wall and the centre is still open for business.

A Garda spokesperson said, “Gardaí are investigating a report of criminal damage to a premise in Leader Park, Co Longford. The incident occurred on February 18, 2019. Investigations are ongoing.”

Fianna Fáil councillor Joe Flaherty called it a “mindless attack”, telling Claire Byrne on RTÉ News at One, “I doubt that anyone is going there today.

“You have words like ‘Nazi’, ‘racist’, ‘murder’ and ‘death’ all daubed across the whole front of the building, it’s very disturbing.”
