Pizza For Breakfast? It Turns Out It Could Be Healthier Than Cereal

We’ve all been there before; you wake up after a heavy night on the sauce to find a delish leftover pizza waiting for you in the fridge.

And although we’re usually ridden with guilt after devouring one too many slices, apparently we can eat pizza for breakfast in the comfort that it might be healthier than a bowl of cereal.

Chelsey Amer, a dietician and blogger, told the Evening Standard that because pizza contains more protein than a bowl of cereal, it provides a better start to the day.

She said: “You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories.”

“However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”

Amer said that although pizza isn’t necessarily classed as a ‘health food’, it is a more balanced option than a bowl of sugary cereal.

Obviously if your pizza is drenched in unhealthy toppings this won’t be a healthy choice, but if your pizza is full of veggies, you’re good to go.

Dietician Priya Tew told the publication: “It really depends what you put on it. If you have a pizza that is heavily laden with cheese and pepperoni than that’s not a good decision but if it has lots of vegetables then it could be a good option.”

That’s all the convincing we needed to be comfortable with eating pizza for breakfast. Bon appetite!
