Plans for €100m ‘Kildare Village’ in Cork are back on track

proposed design of retail village in Cork

The proposed development would see an €100 million Kildare Village style retail outlet launched in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork.

It’s set to open just off the N25, between Glounthaune and Carrigtwohill.

Plans for the outlet centre in East Cork have been in the works for years now. According to Breaking News, the €100 million retail outlet looks as though it will set up in Carrigtwohill. This is thought to be an ideal spot given its close proximity to Fota Island, Cobh, and Midleton.

The benefit of such project was outlined in the recently launched Cork County Development Plan 2022-2028.

Now, the project has been given a major boost as the planning minister has sided against objections to the development from the Office of the Planning Regulator, the Examiner reports.

In June of this year, Cork County Council was informed of an objection to elements of the plan from Minister for Local Government, Darragh O’Brien, based on advice he has received from the Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR).

It’s unclear yet whether we will see a Kildare Village style outlet in East Cork by 2024; however the way has been cleared to push forward with this style of shopping centre.
