Is This The Funniest Thing We’ve Ever Heard Being Said In The Dáil?

Alana Laverty

In a VERY bizarre twist of events, Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae last night raised a rather unusual issue at the Topical Issues debate in the Dáil.

According to Healy-Rae, the “rhododendron situation” in Killarney National Park has gotten SO bad that the army may have to be called in to control things.

What is a rhododendron, you ask? What could be so bad that the army needs to be brought in?

Why, it’s a flower.

No, seriously.

While it may look harmless to the innocent eye, Healy-Rae says that trying to get these flowers under control is “difficult, costly and labour intensive” for his department.

And while we understand that this issue is actually quite serious in Killarney National Park… Mr Healy-Rae’s way with words makes it hard not to giggle.

And the Twitter community seems to agree…

A huge thank you to Conor McMorrow of RTÉ for sharing this with the world.
