Restaurateurs Furious After Woman Awarded €20k For Hitting Knee Off Table

James Fenton

The CEO of the Irish Restaurant’s Association has said that common sense is needed after €20,000 was awarded to a woman who banged her leg on a restaurant table.

According to the Irish Independent, Annette O’Connor was awarded the damages by the High Court after the incident at the Mullingar Park Hotel.

It was alleged that a tablecloth had obscured her view of the table.

Adrian Cummins said:

“You have to inject a bit of common sense into this. The problem is that claim on top of all the other claims, drives everybody’s insurance through the roof.

I think the judiciary is out of touch with what is happening in Irish society. People think it is easy to claim for trivial incidents.”

What do you think about the payout? Would you claim if a similar thing happened to you? Let us know in the comments.
