Michael O'Leary, the controversial but hugely successful businessman and boss of Ryanair, certainly took home a pretty penny last year.

His total salary and incentives hit almost €3.26 million, The Journal reports, putting him top of the remuneration list for European airline bosses.

His salary increased by nearly €100,000 since 2016, with the increase coming mainly from his performance-related bonus which soared from €855,000 in 2016 to €950,000.

RYANAIR BOSS MICHAEL O’Leary’s pay package soared higher over the past year, with his salary and incentives hitting nearly €3.26 million.

O'Leary currently owns 3.8% of the airline's shares, worth at present €836 million.
