There’s Been A Significant Development In The Search For Rescue 116

James Fenton

Rescue workers searching for the ill-fated Rescue 116 helicopter have located a ping from its black box.

The news have been described by Gerry O’Flynn, operations manager of the Irish Coast Guard as a ‘significant development’ in the search for the wreckage.

Of the four people on board the helicopter, only Captain Dara Fitzpatrick has been discovered but she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Captain Mark Duffy, Winch Operator Paul Ormsby and Winchman Ciaran Smith are all still missing.

Unfavourable weather conditions over the coming days are expected to hamper the mission which has drafted in UK investigations officers to assist.
