Smyths Toys Ireland Recalls Popular Children’s Toy Following ‘Several Incidents’ of Exploding Plugs

Smyths Toys Ireland has recalled a popular children’s toy after reports of ‘several incidents’ involving the plug.

The ‘Furious Challenger Electric Racing Set’ has been removed from Irish shelves after complaints of the plug melting/smoking/exploding when in use.

The toy company has appealed to parents to keep the toy away from children and return it for a full refund. 

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission website warns: “Smyths Toys has been made aware of several incidents – six in total – regarding the plug/charger on this toy.

“In some occasions, the plug was smoking/melting/exploding when in use. No injuries or property damages were reported.”

Smyths toys issued an apology, stating: 

Smyths Toys has been made aware of several incidents regarding the plug/charger on this toy. No injuries have been reported. The product was sold in the United Kingdom, Republic Of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

“Batch placed on the market from the 7th August 2017. The affected batch number is 1706. The batch code can be found on both the packaging and on the track itself.”

“Consumers should take the recalled toy away from children. Please return this item to a Smyths Toys Superstore for the product to be inspected and a refund issued.

‘Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
