Finland v Ireland – Everything you need to know about this evening’s Nations League match

James Fenton

Finland v Ireland will wrap up a fairly tumultuous international week for Stephen Kenny’s squad this evening, with the newly-appointed manager still looking for his first win.

Ireland’s performances against Slovakia and Wales have been widely praised but we’re still lacking where it matters most – sticking the ball into the ol’ onion bag. In Stephen Kenny’s four games in charge, Ireland have only managed to score once and that was a late equaliser by defender Shane Duffy away to Bulgaria last month.

Despite his squad being hit by plenty of coronavirus-related drama over the past week, Kenny will be pleased to welcome back Aaron Connolly and Adam Idah, who missed the Slovakia and Wales games due to being close contacts of a positive (later confirmed as negative) case. Here’s everything else you need to know about Finland v Ireland this evening…

What channel is Finland v Ireland on?

Finland v Ireland will be shown live from the Olympiastadion in Helsinki on Sky Sports Football.

What time does Finland v Ireland kick off?

The match will get underway at 5pm or, in other words, just about logging off time for people working from home.

Do we need to win?

It would bloody well help, yeah. With the World Cup qualifying draw looming in December, we need to pick up some wins in order to secure a place in pot 2, thus avoiding too many European heavyweights in a quest to get to Qatar in 2022.

We currently lie third in our Nations League group on two points, with Wales and Finland off in the distance on seven and six points respectively. Bulgaria, who host Wales this evening, prop up the table on one point.
