Starbucks To Block People Watching Porn On Their Free Wifi

Jen

Starbucks will ban people from accessing porn and other explicit content on their wifi from next year.

The coffee giant will roll out a new tool that will prevent people from watching inappropriate content in their stores.

Porn and similar content has been banned for a while in Starbucks, but this will be first time it has something in place to block people from viewing it.

According to Business Insider, the introduction of the blocking tool comes after years of pressure from the internet-safety organisation Enough Is Enough.

Starbucks has not given details to their solution but did say it had tested multiple tools that would allow them block the inappropriate sites without blocking the unoffensive ones.

Earlier this week, Enough Is Enough CEO, Donna Rice Hughes, attacked Starbucks for not following through on their 2006 commitments.

“By breaking its commitment, Starbucks is keeping the doors wide open for convicted sex offenders and others to fly under the radar from law enforcement and use free, public Wi-Fi services to access illegal child porn and hard-core pornography.”

“Having unfiltered hotspots also allows children and teens to easily bypass filters and other parental control tools set up by their parents on their smartphones, tablets, and laptops,” Hughes said.
