Warning against dense areas of thickening fog this evening, motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

According to the national forecaster, tonight will be cloudy and mostly dry at first with light rain and drizzle moving southeastwards across Ulster overnight. Mist and fog will become widespread throughout Munster, Connacht and Leinster as the evening goes on with lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

Tomorrow is likely to bring further outbreaks of rain and drizzle with that expected to be most persistent in the northwest. Temperatures to become "much colder and more unsettled from midweek".
