The Amount Of People Who Drown In Ireland Every Year Is Staggering

James Fenton

Irish Water Safety has issued a fresh warning to people taking to the water this bank holiday weekend.

The message comes as it has been revealed that 133 people drown on average in Irish waters each year.

Sea levels are expected to be high this weekend and temperatures are expected to be low as Irish Water Safety spokesperson John Leech explained:

“The main advice for this weekend, particularly as this early in the year, the water being quite cold, 11 degrees in the sea and 9 degrees inland, is for everybody to wear a life-jacket and to make sure that they are wearing proper protective clothing over the weekend – no matter what their aquatic activity is.”
