Roaming charges are something we never really got our heads around.
Every time we went on holidays, we had to ask the eternal questions; do you have to turn on roaming? How much would it cost to make a call and, of course, does it cost to receive a text?
But no more.
Following a new EU law that comes into place this Thursday, roaming charges for calls and texts within the EU are to end, according to the Irish Independent.
All phone calls and texts made while abroad in the EU will be charged the same as if you were at home. Ideal.
But, there’s also a catch.
The laws don’t apply to data usage, which will still incur roaming charges.
Even if you have free data at home, that doesn’t apply abroad. In general, you can get 2GB free data when abroad, before the roaming fees come into place.
