In the latest in a long line of jawdropping and horrendous decisions, Donald Trump announced last week that he would be banning all transgender soldiers from serving in the military.
The move was widely condemned across the globe and now, the Irish Defence Forces have come out in support of the transgender community.
In a statement to Independent.ie, the organisation said that it would welcome anyone who wished to join the forces and reiterated its commitment to equal opportunities.
“[We] welcome applications from all members of Irish society, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender.”
“The Government believes that the Defence Forces should reflect the richness and diversity of the community it serves. To that end, the Defence Forces are committed to the principle of equal opportunity in all of its employment policies, procedures, instructions and regulations.”
