The Pope’s Visit Could Feck Up Everyone’s All-Ireland Final Plans

James Fenton

The GAA could potentially face the wrath of thousands of angry fans by moving the date of the All-Ireland Football Final in order to accommodate a visit by Pope Francis next year.

Ireland’s showpiece sporting event is traditionally held on the third Sunday of September but as of 2018, the main event is going to be moved to August.

However, according to the Irish Independent, Croke Park bosses are already reconsidering the new arrangements as they plan to host a mass on Sunday August 26 of next year, a date which has already been penciled in for the football final.

While Croke Park isn’t the confirmed venue for any potential sermon, it is high on the list of venues for Francis to work his magic.

Is there anything to be said for another mass at a different venue?
