Animal cruelty is something we’ll never understand, so we can only imagine the shock a young girl in Cork got when she discovered three newborn kittens dumped in a recycling bin.
Her mother spoke to RedFm and told how her daughter found the kittens completely abandoned.
“She took some bags to the clothes bank at Douglas Court around two o’clock, and putting in the last bag she heard meowing and thought that there was a cat behind her,” Maureen said.
“She went back and discovered that it was coming from the clothes bin. So she ran across to the Dunnes Stores delivery yard until one lad there came along.”
After four hours of waiting for the recycling company to unlock the bin, with the help of two Guards the kittens were rescued.
They “took out a shoebox wrapped in twine with three kittens inside. Their eyes weren’t even open,” the mother said.
Luckily, the three dotes have had plenty of offers for housing and have been taken in by Cork Cat Action and have been christened “Douglas”, “Courtney” and “Sam”.
Gardai are examining the CCTV footage.
