While we love Starbucks just as much as the next person (they’re the only place you’re guaranteed an ice cold brew), it is nice to support the independent coffee shops, the ones that remember your order every morning and serve the tastiest sausage rolls you’ll ever try.
So when a small cafe in Arklow, Wicklow, The Blue Cafe, heard that a new Starbucks had opened nearby, they had the most perfect response that proves that local businesses are the real heart of any community.
Here’s what they wrote on their notice board:
“Thank you for supporting a small local cafe.
“Our coffee doesn’t Costa lot and we don’t write your name on your cup as we think you already know it.”

Rebecca Meehan, daughter of Blue Cafe owner Elizabeth, posted the sign to Twitter, adding: “recovery is slower in towns like Arklow. Main streets sit largely empty while the 2 biggest coffee chains in the world expand their empires.”
Yas Blue Cafe. We bet they’ll be getting a lot of impressed customers after this.
