The Republic Of Ireland women’s team pulled off an incredible result last night by holding European champions The Netherlands to a 0-0 draw in Nijmegen.
To put that in context, the hosts had won their last 11 games and emerged victorious at Euro 2017 on home soil earlier this summer.
After last night’s valuable draw, Ireland now sit second in their World Cup qualifying table and, while they’ve only played three games, look in decent shape to make it to France 2019.
The result is all the more satisfying after the shabby way in which the women’s team has been treated by the FAI emerged earlier this year. They’ll definitely have won a few more fans after this performance and result. Their next qualifying game is at home against Slovakia on April 6 where we’re sure support would be greatly appreciated.
Just looking at these clips you can tell how much it meant to the girls. Gotta love the Rihanna rendition!
???? When you’ve claimed an historic point at the home of the European Champions, you’ve got to celebrate! ????????????
