Two Men Missing After Car Swept Into River In Mayo Early This Morning

Updated 6pm: A Garda spokesman has confirmed that two bodies have been recorded from the river and the search has been stood down. 

A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow.

Gardai in  Louisburgh, Mayo are at the scene of a road traffic incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning when an SUV that was crossing the Carrowniskey River at approximately 2.30am. when their vehicle became totally submerged in water.

Three men were on board as the vehicle was swept down the river and one man (19) managed to escape to raise the alarm at around 3am.

The other two men (27 and 26 years) remain missing.  

The Garda Water Unit have arrived at the scene and it is a Garda spokesperson has stated that they have begun the search for recovery of bodies.
