“I’m not defined by the fact that I am some man’s daughter, sister, cousin, mother. I am a woman and I have agency just because I’m breathing air, motherfucker.”

At just under seven minutes, Heartbreak tells the story of how a teenager becomes pregnant and the challenges she faces, especially the attitudes towards women that are still pervasive in a modern Ireland.

Emmet Kirwan and Dave Tynan, who previously worked on a video for the Repeal project last year called We Face This Land, team up again to put together this incredibly powerful short story.

Kirwan narrates the story of ‘Young One’ played by Jordanne Jones.

The film was the centrepiece of RIOT Dublin, the winner of best production at the 2016 Dublin Fringe Festival.
