Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan has shared a positive message this weekend about Ireland’s battle with Covid-19.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday afternoon, Dr. Holohan said that ‘we are making progress on Covid-19’ and pointed to the fact that Ireland has the best recent seven-day rate out of all the countries in the European Union. Holohan reserved particular praise for young people for following public health advice but added a word of caution that it’s ‘too early to stop’ with rates still increasing in the over-65 age category.
We are making progress on #COVID19 – we are following public health advice. Young people especially. Best country in EU in most recent 7-day rates. But- too early to stop. Rates still rising in >65s and have not dropped in Dublin. We need to keep it up. @HSELive @roinnslainte

A few hours after the CMO’s message was posted, 416 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, the lowest daily number since October 4. Level 5 restrictions came in place on October 22 and are due to last until December 1.
