Met Éireann has issued a weather warning to 10 counties as Ireland prepares for the arrival of Storm Bella on St. Stephen’s Day.
Storm Bella was named by the UK Met Office earlier today and it’s set to bring ‘strong, damaging gusts and heavy rain’ on St. Stephen’s Day. Met Éireann has now issued a status yellow wind warning to the five counties of Connacht as well as Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
The warning is valid from midday on St. Stephen’s Day until 6am on Sunday, December 27 and reads as follows: ‘Through Saturday afternoon, evening and night, westerly winds associated with Storm Bella (named by UK Met Office) will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h.
‘With the combination of strong winds, high waves and forecasted storm surge, there is a risk of coastal flooding. Further updates will be issued as necessary.’

Christmas Day, however, is set to be a much more pleasant experience. It will be a largely dry day with light rain turning persistent on Christmas night and if you are looking to get out over the next few days, it looks like the 25th might be the best option.
