Wexford Shop Apologises For Using ‘Blackface’ In Black Friday Ad

A hardware store in Co Wexford has issued an apology after facing backlash for their Black Friday ad over the weekend.

The ad featured the shop’s owner covered in black paint as he pointed out some of their deals, with people accusing him of wearing ‘blackface’ in the video.

In the ad he said, “We’re just getting dressed up because it’s Black Friday weekend and we always have deals and deals – but I’ve pushed to boat out on this one.”

But they faced backlash for choosing to wear black paint in the ad and the shop has since issued an apology.

They released a statement which read, “We would like to sincerely apologise to anyone upset or offended by our recent video post.

“While naive on our part, we in no way intended to impersonate or insult anyone based on their race.

“However, on reflection, we can see how it would be perceived that way and for that we are very sorry.”
