Who Is Too Young Or Old For You To Date?

Alana Laverty

Do you have an age cap for potential dates? Or the prerequisite that they at least have to be out of Sixth Form?

It can be tricky to know who’s too juvenile or just too damn old (unless it’s George Clooney. Obvs) to date in this day and age, as traditional relationship dynamics get more and more complicated.

But luckily for us, there’s now a dating formula which can give us an idea what we should be aiming for.

Accurate? Fairly. Ridiculous? Most definitely.

But if you really have no clue how old or young you should be dating, this can be a bit of an eye-opener.

To find out the youngest age you should date, take your current age, divide it by 2, and add 7.

I’m 25 now, so I took 12.5, added 7 years, is 19.5. Because the idea of dating someone in their teens makes me uncomfortable, I’m gonna go ahead and round that up to 20, which seems… still pretty young to me…each to their own.

To find out what the oldest age you should date is, take your current age, subtract 7, and multiply it by two.

25 minus 7 is 18, multiplied by two is 36. 11 years older than I am. This seems perfectly reasonable. FYI Bradley Cooper is 42 so I’m going to exercise creative license and round it up by 6.
