Zach Braff has paid tribute to Sam Lloyd after his passing, writing: "I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."

News broke this morning that Sam Lloyd has passed away at the age of 56, after losing a short battle with brain cancer. Best known for his portrayal of lawyer Ted Buckland on the comedy medical drama series Scrubs, Sam starred in just under 100 episodes of the hit show.

Sam also had roles on Desperate Housewives, Happy Together, Shameless, The West Wing and Modern Family along with guest appearances as his Scrubs character Ted on the sitcom Cougar Town.

A number of Sam's Scrubs co-stars have paid tribute to him since hearing the news, with Zach Braff taking to Twitter to share his condolences.

"Rest in peace to one of the funniest actors I've ever had the joy of working with. sam Lloyd made me crack up and break character every single time we did a scene together. HE could not have been a kinder man. I will forever cherish the time I had with you, Sammy."

Show creator Bill Lawrence also shared his sympathies, writing:

"Spent the night watching clips of Sam (The Songs! The greatest sweaty pratfall of all time!) Those who reached out, our "Scrubs family" appreciates it - he had the biggest heart of all of us. But now send all those good thoughts to his family. And to your own loved ones. #RIPTed"

Fans have also been sharing their commiserations, with some crediting him as being one of the reasons they continue to rewatch Scrubs.
