"There's always something you can improve on. That's what keeps me coming back for more."

We've teamed up with Vhi to bring you the Reasons to Run podcast. Each week we speak to a guest about their running journey in the build up to the Vhi Women's Mini Marathon on June 2.

On this week's episode, podcaster and women in sports advocate Emily Glen, joined us to chat about staying motivated to get out and hit the ground running.

The Vhi Women's Mini Marathon was Emily's first real "run", having finished college with "zero fitness".

After completing her first 10K, she was hooked - and is now a seasoned runner with a rake of marathons and medals under her belt.

However, like everyone, she still has her bad days - days when going out for a run is the last thing she wants to do.

She told us how she motivates herself on these days.

"I'm motivated by running events. They definitely keep me focused," she says.

"But I think if you have a good run and end up in this "flow state" - it's actually really meditative."

"It's that feeling that gets me out the door, but sometimes you need a push to get out. And that's where the race comes in."

Emily also runs to get to know a place better.

"That's what I'm currently really enjoying," she reveals. "Running in places that I haven't explored before."
