With that said, we’re feeling inspired to jump in the car, get on the road and explore the glory that our island has to offer. So here are 10 beautiful day trips to have in Ireland this year.

Skellig Michael, County Kerry

The Star Wars fans among us have probably been itching to see the astonishingly gorgeous spot where Luke Skywalker resided. But even if you have no idea what I’m talking about, you’re going to want to experience this dramatically stunning island off the coast of Kerry.

Ireland’s Eye, County Dublin

Fancy another island adventure. Drive out to Howth in North Dublin, perk in the town, have a wander around the promenade and up the pier and hop on one of the boat tours over to Ireland’s Eye. Spend a few hours at the beach or jump and climb through rocks and hills.

Slieve League Cliffs, County Donegal

Driving through Donegal, you’re going to be treated to some seriously amazing sights you can’t get anywhere else. But one might argue that the Slieve League Cliffs are the most beautiful and epic sight you will come across in the county.

Lough Boora, County Offaly

Now for a bit of midlands magic. Lough Boora Discovery Park is nothing short of stunning, with stunning trails meandering through majestic nature and dotted with thought-provoking sculptures.

Hook Peninsula

Wexford is known as an adventure lovers dream and many people enjoy staycations there every year because it’s full of exciting things to do. And Hook Peninsula is no exception. Between exploring heritage sites to experiencing some of the fantastic adventure activities such as kite surfing, there are loads you can squeeze into a day here.

Ballycroy National Park, County Mayo

Ah, magnificent Mayo. It truly is a work of its own, and Ballycroy National Park is a perfect representation of that.

Lough Derg, County Clare/Tipperary

Think opportunities to try some fun watersports, scenic driving routes and gloriously beautiful walking trails.

Boyne Valley, County Meath

Boyne Valley is just one of the historical and heritage hubs of Ireland’s Ancient East. Travel back thousands of years to learn about life in ancient Ireland at sites such as Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth.

Ring of Kerry, County Kerry

You could argue that out of the scenic drives along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, the Ring of Kerry is the most invigorating. Featuring rolling hills, colourful towns and coastal scenes like no other, you’ll want to stop the car to take it all in at various points.

As you can tell, we’re buzzing to jump in the car and experience everything Ireland has to offer in 2020. We’ve teamed up with MINI to celebrate some of the incredible sights and experiences to be found in our glorious country as they launch their brand new MINI Countryman.

You can find out more about the MINI Countryman here. Ideal for adventures with the family, with friends or by yourself, the MINI Countryman just screams adventure. From leisurely drives through the countryside to mountainside adventures, the largest, roomiest, most adventure-ready MINI makes it effortless as well as stylish.
