The 12 Twists Of Christmas: This Stellar Margarita Recipe Will Go Down A Treat This Winter

This is the best way to make a homemade cocktail

This Christmas, like many before, is set to be filled with good craic and great bants.

I don't know about you but I adore having a few drinks with my friends beside the fire. There's no better feeling than being tucked under a fluffy blanket and almost dozing off with the sheer snuggliness.

Having a few nice, good quality drinks can really set the mood.

Nothing screams "I'm ready to party" like a Margarita.

That's where I come in...

Welcome to The 12 Twists Of Christmas with Schweppes!

Every week I'll be introducing you to some of the best homemade cocktail recipes around. Best of all, they're jam-packed with flavour and require very little effort. You can have a delicious drink without having to stress.

This week's cocktail is the Merry Margarita!

It's made from smooth Patrón Anejo tequila and smoky mescal, mixed with triple sec, lime juice and agave syrup, then topped up with Schweppes 1783 Salty Lemon Tonic Water and garnished with wheels of lemon and lime.

This cocktail is ideal with snacks.

It's made from Patrón Anejo.

It's a nice switch for tequila drinkers who want a bit more complexity and smoothness in the taste of their spirit. It has a fresh, clean taste that's subtly fruity.

Here's everything you need to make the best homemade Margaritas at home:

• 15ml Patrón Anejo

• 15ml Zignum Reposado Mezcal

• 15ml lime juice

• 15ml triple sec

• 5ml agave syrup

• 150ml Schweppes 1783 Salty Lemon Tonic Water

Garnish: lime and lemon wheel

If you want to mix it up a little, you could add crushed ice and make a frozen Margarita.

Add some sombreros, nachos and maracas and you've got yourself a crazy Mexican-style Christmas party!

Here's how to make it:

Fill a Boston Shaker with ice to the top, add the Patrón Reposado tequila, mescal, triple sec, lime juice and agave syrup and shake well. Fill a Gatsby style goblet with ice and strain mix into the glass. Mix with Schweppes 1783 Salty Lemon Tonic Water.

To garnish: slice a lime and lemon wheel, and place in the glass.

This would be the ultimate cocktail for a fancy pre-drinks party. Round up the troops and celebrate the new year with some tasty drinks.

Don't forget to share your homemade cocktail snaps with us and to drink responsibly.
