The winners of the Just Eat National Takeaway Awards have been announced!

One thing 2020 will be remembered for is the nights in watching movies and enjoying delicious takeaway. As restrictions continued, our local takeaway restaurants were the ones who added the much-needed spice to our weekends and gave us something to look forward to when we were having a particularly tough day at the office.

So, it’s only right that we give them the recognition they deserve. Reimagined as a fully digital event, this year’s edition of the Just Eat National Takeaway Awards aims to support independent restaurants that have been disproportionately impacted by Covid-19 and the resulting restrictions.

The fine Irish public was asked to vote for the best takeaways in the country and the results are now in. Saba To Go in Rathmines, Dublin was crowned winner of ‘Best Takeaway Ireland’ category. Set to benefit from a media support package worth €20,000, Saba To Go is just one of this year’s winners under 28 award categories, voted for by the public. Over 23,000 votes were cast for local and independent takeaway eateries right across Ireland in recent weeks, with the nation out in force to show its support for a distressed but resilient restaurant sector.

Meanwhile, the Best Takeaway Cocktails Award was won by Harry’s Bar in Galway and Mario & Luigi Gelato in Clondalkin won the prize for Best Takeaway Dessert. Neapolitan pizza restaurant Palmento in Douglas, Cork won the Community Hero accolade. This is in recognition of the work they have done for their community during this unprecedented year.

Speaking about the announcement of this year’s winners and the importance of the public vote, Amanda Roche-Kelly, Managing Director at Just Eat Ireland said:“We continue to be inspired by the responsive efforts of our colleagues in the restaurant sector but also by the reaction of local communities right across Ireland who have engaged in record numbers with this year’s Just Eat National Takeaway Awards.

“These awards have always been about giving our customers the opportunity to support their local restaurant, celebrating excellence in the industry. This year in particular, the level of public engagement has been phenomenal and really helps to shine a light on excellence in innovation, resilience and diversity in the face of the huge challenges experienced by our hospitality industry this year.

Commenting specifically on the winners of the Just Eat National Takeaway Awards, Ms. Roche-Kelly added: “Today we’re celebrating Saba To Go, Rathmines, winner of Best Takeaway Ireland for a second consecutive year, who will benefit from a media support package worth €20,000, as well as our Community Hero Award recipient Palmento, Douglas, Cork, but also our customers. Thank you for supporting your local takeaway heroes and continuously helping us to develop and evolve our offering.”
