“This is really my mum’s story.

“It happened during a bus strike in Dublin during the 1960s. When my mother missed her chance to get a lift from Temple Street with the army, my dad pulled up and offered her a lift. He was a goods guard for CIE and he brought her to what was then Kingsbridge Station (now known as Heuston Station).

“For the next year, she stalked Kingsbridge for a glimpse of him and he stalked Temple Street for her. A year later, by chance, she spotted him standing on the platform at Kingsbridge and knocked on the window to get his attention.

“One week later he proposed.

“So if it wasn’t for Iarnród Éireann, I wouldn’t be here.”
